SUMMARY:Zion Rodman
DESCRIPTION:Zion Rodman is a multi-instrumental singer-songwriter. He grew up in Cape Cod where he played around since the age of 15 and eventually received a B.A. in music from the University of Massachusetts in Boston. \n\n\n\nIn 2017\, Zion teamed up with producer Alex Katz and released his debut full-length record You’re Invited. The folk-rock album received praise and local media attention following its anticipated release. Crossfader Magazine wrote that in an era of “lo-fi bedroom projects\, it’s refreshing to hear a young creative voice this professionally produced\, fully realized\, and cohesively structured around a distinct personality and energy.” \n\n\n\nLess than a year later\, Zion released an EP titled “Did Not Wake up Today” on January 20th\, 2018. This project features heavier topics and harder rock than his debut album. Even before its release\, the title track was recognized by AFROPUNK: “Rodman turns up the volume of his melodic indie pop\, with his stunning voice just barely masking his anger beneath the hook.” \n\n\n\nHis most recent album “Whatever Happens” was recorded in Chicago and released in 2020. Zion currently lives in Boston with his fiancé and their cats. The program was awarded the “Best Transformative Higher Learning Model” from the Hip-Hop Education Center at NYU. Toki also facilitated seven Twin Cities Celebration of Hip-Hop Festivals and helped establish “Hip-Hop at H.E.A.L.S\,” a program for former child soldiers in Gulu\, Northern Uganda. \n\n\n\nToki’s worked with the US State Department\, delivered a TED Talk\, and ran the youth-led nonprofit YO! The Movement\, helping to build community through the arts. Toki is a freelance writer\, radio host and has been a judge for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest\, and a community organizer. He’s released albums and film through his media company Soul Tools Entertainment that have charted top 50 on MTV\, iTunes\, and more. Wright has performed at events like Coachella\, Rock The Bells and more while sharing stages with the likes of Lizzo\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Atmosphere\, the late Sean Price\, and J-Live. Toki also facilitated seven Twin Cities Celebration of Hip-Hop Festivals and helped establish “Hip-Hop at H.E.A.L.S\,” a program for former child soldiers in Gulu\, Northern Uganda. \n\n\n\nToki’s worked with the US State Department\, delivered a TED Talk\, and ran the youth-led nonprofit YO! The Movement\, helping to build community through the arts. Toki is a freelance writer\, radio host and has been a judge for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest\, and a community organizer. He’s released albums and film through his media company Soul Tools Entertainment that have charted top 50 on MTV\, iTunes\, and more. Wright has performed at events like Coachella\, Rock The Bells and more while sharing stages with the likes of Lizzo\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Atmosphere\, the late Sean Price\, and J-Live. Toki has released recordings with Talib Kweli\, BJ The Chicago Kid\, and G Yamazawa to name a few.

DESCRIPTION:So far\, In 2023 Roella has performed with her piano trio at the NAMM show in Anaheim\, California and at Capitol Turnaround in Washington DC as a featured artist of the SHEROCKS 2023 showcase. As a pianist\, this year I represented Berklee’s Jazz and Gender Justice Institute at the RENO JAZZ FESTIVAL in Reno\, Nevada\, the Detroit Jazz Festival Collegiate competition in Detroit\, Michigan\,  and headlined with Terri-Lyne Carrington’s band as part of BAMSfest 2023. \n\n\n\nLast year\, she won the ISJAC (International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers) prize for Emerging Black Composers. In May 2022\, she travelled to Austin\, Texas to accept the award and perform with the 17-piece jazz orchestra that was provided. In November 2022\, Roella booked and completed a London Mini-tour with her trio from Berklee that coincided with the London Jazz Festival. The 3 biggest of the 5 show dates; The Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall\, a Late Late Show at Ronnie Scott’s and a lunch-time show at The Pizza Express Soho were all sold out. The tour also coincided with the release of her first EP \,”Sentient Sounds.” \n\n\n\nWhilst at Berklee\, Roella has received tutelage from exceptional professors such as NEA Jazz Masters Terri Lyne-Carrington and Joanne Brackeen and Grammy nominated saxophonist Tia Fuller. In Spring 2022\, she studied with Esperanza Spalding at Harvard as part of Spalding’s Black Improvisational Music and Dance class.
