The Washington Post described Thea as a “standout writer”. Festivals and venues where Thea has performed include the Kennedy Center (DC)\, Woody Guthrie Festival (OK)\, the Green Note (UK)\, the Brooklyn Americana Festival (UK)\, Moseley Folk Festival (UK)\, Greenbelt Festival (UK)\, Saltaire Festival (UK)\, Summertyne Americana Festival (UK)\, the Atkinson (UK)\,  American Folk Art Museum (NY)\, Bluebird Cafe (TN). Her new album\, “Here In Our World”\, is scheduled to be released in January 2025. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2-3 PM | Geri Barney\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeraldine Barney\n\n\n\n\n\nGeraldine Barney’s music explores the relationship between the traditional Navajo values and beliefs she grew up with on the Navajo Reservation in Northwest New Mexico with contemporary city life off the reservation. They are the resident collective for The THUMP & SOUL SESSION\, a monthly dance party at Gallery X in New Bedford. \n\n\n\nThe collective is led by The ZYG 808\, a multi-talented artist and founder of Soul Poets Records. He is joined by Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor\, a versatile composer and musician. Asa Peters\, a musician rooted in various musical traditions\, and Casey Figueroa\, a visual artist and EDM producer\, also contribute to the collective’s sound and visuals. \n\n\n\nTheir debut album\, The Session\, set to release on Poly-Groove Records\, pays homage to New York-style House Music. She has been described as a “standout writer” by the Washington Post. In the spring of 2024\, Thea attended the ISPA Congress in Perth Australia as a Western Arts Alliance artist delegate. She was an official showcase artist at the International Indigenous Music Summit in June 2023. Thea was a 2023 recipient of an artist award from the Newport Festivals Foundation. Her song\, “The Ghost Of Emmett Till” was the grand prize winner of the Great American Song Contest in 2021.  \n\n\n\nVenues where Thea has performed include Massey Hall (CN)\, Banff Centre For The Arts (CN) Kennedy Center (DC)\, Woody Guthrie Festival (OK)\, the Moseley Folk Festival (UK)\, the Summertyne Americana Festival (UK) and the Bluebird Cafe (TN). Her new album\, “Here In Our World” is scheduled to be released in September 2024. She first came to wider public notice when Peter\, Paul & Mary recorded her song “Jesus Is On The Wire” in 2004\, and then again in 2010 with the Prague Symphony Orchestra.
