- Maria Hendricks – Cultural and Language Consultant
Maria Hendricks (Assonet & Mashpee Wampanoag), Cultural and Language Consultant, is a multilingual, Afroindigenous actress, singer & activist. Maria herself has performed on professional stages in Boston, New York, Vermont, Washington DC, Virginia and even South Dakota!
In addition to curating special programming for Indigenous Peoples Day again this season, Maria has been tasked with highlighting female-identifying artists who will bring an acoustic and soulful vibe: fusing Native sounds, Folk, Jazz, R&B, and Soul. She is absolutely thrilled to bring returning artists as well as a variety of new talent to what she has dubbed: Acoustic and Soulful Sundays!
She has also served as Resident Artist/Co-Artistic Director at New Repertory Theatre for two seasons (nominated for 7 Boston Theater Critics Association-Elliot Norton Awards in 2024!). Her work at New Rep focused on the celebration of & creating platforms for historically, marginalized voices & groups in the Greater Boston area. Some of her producer credits include community collaborations on Watertown Multicultural fest, WatertownPRIDE, and Indigenous Peoples day events to name a few. Because of her significant work in arts and culture in Watertown, Maria has been nominated to be the chair of the Watertown Square Cultural District!
Maria Hendricks also works as an audio-describer and cultural/linguistics consultant for numerous Boston artistic organizations in collaboration with www.thinkoutsidethevox.
