His effort and dedication to music led him to earn a full tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he received both his Bachelors and Masters in Music Performance Studies through the Global Jazz Institute\, headed by world-renowned artistic director\, pianist\, and UNESCO Artist for Peace Danilo Perez. \n\n\n\nAs a performer\, Gregory has had the honor to share the stage with prestigious musicians such as Philip Bailey (Earth\, Wind\, and Fire)\, Patrice Rushen\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Danilo Perez\, John Patitucci\, Brian Blade\, and Esperanza Spalding. As a bandleader and a sideman\, he has performed in music festivals in the United States\, Latin America\, Europe\, and Africa. \n\n\n\nAs an educator\, Gregory has served as the co-chair of music at his alma mater\, the Boston Arts Academy where he provided instruction in Jazz studies to the next generation of artists and scholars. Gregory currently serves as the Assistant Chair of Ensemble at the world renowned\, Berklee College of Music. Tim has shared stages and recordings with artists such as The Nappy Roots\, Carolyn Malachi\, Bilal\, Chris Turner\, Aloe Blacc\, Maria Fenklemeier\, The Boston Symphony Orchestra\, and Diana Oh\, among others. Additionally\, Tim is faculty at Berklee College of Music\, a member of the award winning band STL GLD\, and a principal collaborator with Cliff Notez\, Oompa\, and Will Dailey. He was honored as “Session Musician of the Year” by the 2020 Boston Music Awards\, and recognized by WBUR’s Artery 25 as 1 of 25 millennials of color impacting Arts and Culture in Boston. DESCRIPTION:A distinctive trait of internationally recognized jazz pianist Kevin Harris is his desire to constantly grow\, evolve\, improve\, and advance. His interest to interweave traditional and contemporary music styles\, visual arts\, electronic media\, science\, and language\, is what distinguishes his music and what renders his performances unique experiences\, meant to activate the audience’s senses and personal curiosity. \n\n\n\n“Participation\,” Harris says\, “is what keeps our souls alive.” As a leader\, Harris has released six albums. Both live and recorded performances reflect Harris’s determination to capture his audience through explorative interactions that Terri Lyne Carrington describes as “an exciting commitment to quality.” \n\n\n\nHarris’ music education has its foundation in the degrees he has received\, but equally importantly in Black Gospel and Afro-Caribbean styles of music. He possesses the unique ability to compose complex\, uplifting\, tempestuous\, and deeply stimulating notes. \n\n\n\nOne of the captivating elements of his ensembles\, from duet to orchestra setting\, is the level of comfort and understanding they have with one another. Harris is known for his diving into soulfully expressive conversations and playful exchanges of ideas with his musicians\, while always providing the space to improvise in the moment. \n\n\n\nFred Hersch talks of Harris as one who “plays and writes with flair and real soul” and DownBeat Magazine writes that “Harris’ compositions deal with themes of strength\, love\, courage\, and self- awareness. His effort and dedication to music led him to earn a full tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he received both his Bachelors and Masters in Music Performance Studies through the Global Jazz Institute\, headed by world-renowned artistic director\, pianist\, and UNESCO Artist for Peace Danilo Perez. \n\n\n\nAs a performer\, Gregory has had the honor to share the stage with prestigious musicians such as Philip Bailey (Earth\, Wind\, and Fire)\, Patrice Rushen\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Danilo Perez\, John Patitucci\, Brian Blade\, and Esperanza Spalding. As a bandleader and a sideman\, he has performed in music festivals in the United States\, Latin America\, Europe\, and Africa. \n\n\n\nAs an educator\, Gregory has served as the co-chair of music at his alma mater\, the Boston Arts Academy where he provided instruction in Jazz studies to the next generation of artists and scholars. Gregory currently serves as the Assistant Chair of Ensemble at the world renowned\, Berklee College of Music. In addition to teaching\, Gregory continues to perform regularly with his working bands and is celebrating the release of his second album: the Negro Spiritual Songbook Volume II – “The Message”.
