The E/O toured the US and the world and has been instrumental in bringing Ethiopian music to wider audiences.  \n\n\n\nTrumpeter Mulkerin and Gershon started playing together as teenagers in Connecticut. When Russ headed east to Boston\, John headed west to New York and became a player on the downtown avant jazz-funk scene. He has been a member of Joseph Bowie’s Defunkt for decades\, touring Europe regularly. \n\n\n\nThey are joined by Either/Orchestra bassist Rick McLaughlin\, who teaches harmony and the music of Stevie Wonder at Berklee\, and drummer Brook Sofferman\, a bandleader and composer in his own right. \n\n\n\nThe Trio plus One will play music by Rahsaan Roland Kirk\, Freddie Hubbard\, Arthur Blythe\, the Monkees (!)\, Duke Ellington and more.

DESCRIPTION:Toki Wright is a two-time Emmy Award-winning MC\, poet\, producer\, and cultural diplomat.  He has received two CLIO Award for advertising with General Mills for the number one worldwide Twitter trending project “Watch the Stove” which was also nominated for a Cannes Lion Award.  Wright is currently the chair of the Professional Music Department at Berklee College of Music in Boston.  Before relocating he was the Department Head of the United States’ first fully accredited Hip-Hop Studies program at McNally Smith College of Music. The program was awarded the “Best Transformative Higher Learning Model” from the Hip-Hop Education Center at NYU. Toki also facilitated seven Twin Cities Celebration of Hip-Hop Festivals and helped establish “Hip-Hop at H.E.A.L.S\,” a program for former child soldiers in Gulu\, Northern Uganda. \n\n\n\nToki’s worked with the US State Department\, delivered a TED Talk\, and ran the youth-led nonprofit YO! The Movement\, helping to build community through the arts. Toki is a freelance writer\, radio host and has been a judge for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest\, and a community organizer. He’s released albums and film through his media company Soul Tools Entertainment that have charted top 50 on MTV\, iTunes\, and more. Wright has performed at events like Coachella\, Rock The Bells and more while sharing stages with the likes of Lizzo\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Atmosphere\, the late Sean Price\, and J-Live. Toki has released recordings with Talib Kweli\, BJ The Chicago Kid\, and G Yamazawa to name a few.

DESCRIPTION:Toki Wright is a two-time Emmy Award-winning MC\, poet\, producer\, and cultural diplomat.  He has received two CLIO Award for advertising with General Mills for the number one worldwide Twitter trending project “Watch the Stove” which was also nominated for a Cannes Lion Award.  Wright is currently the chair of the Professional Music Department at Berklee College of Music in Boston.  Before relocating he was the Department Head of the United States’ first fully accredited Hip-Hop Studies program at McNally Smith College of Music. The program was awarded the “Best Transformative Higher Learning Model” from the Hip-Hop Education Center at NYU. Toki also facilitated seven Twin Cities Celebration of Hip-Hop Festivals and helped establish “Hip-Hop at H.E.A.L.S\,” a program for former child soldiers in Gulu\, Northern Uganda. \n\n\n\nToki’s worked with the US State Department\, delivered a TED Talk\, and ran the youth-led nonprofit YO! The Movement\, helping to build community through the arts. Toki is a freelance writer\, radio host and has been a judge for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest\, and a community organizer. He’s released albums and film through his media company Soul Tools Entertainment that have charted top 50 on MTV\, iTunes\, and more. Wright has performed at events like Coachella\, Rock The Bells and more while sharing stages with the likes of Lizzo\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Atmosphere\, the late Sean Price\, and J-Live. Toki has released recordings with Talib Kweli\, BJ The Chicago Kid\, and G Yamazawa to name a few.

His airy\, yet powerful voice and ambitious vocal style are just the surface of what he has to offer. He wears many hats as a Substitute Teacher for the Springfield and Boston Public School Districts\, the Minister of Music at his home church; New Mercies Church of God in Christ\, and After graduating from Springfield Technical Community College with his associates degree in May of 2021\, he decided to pursue music by applying to Berklee College of Music. He auditioned with an original song that he wrote and produced on his own. In March 2021\, he received his acceptance and began developing himself as a well rounded musician/entertainer simply going by “De’Jhaun”. His music can be described as a taste of heaven. From rock/r&b love songs like Stop Playin’ to introspective spiritual r&b/pop ballads like Open Up\, De’Jhaun’s music will be an inspiration to every generation currently residing on Earth. In April 2024 De’Jhaun started in the Michael Jackson Ensemble at Berklee as a lead. It has always been his dream to pay tribute to his favorite artist. In May 2024 he participated in Berklee’s infamous Commencement Concert which honored Q-Tip\, Gilberto Santa Rosa\, and Ledisi; whom he had the honor to pay tribute to. The next day he graduated from Berklee with a Bachelors Degree in Professional Music and is elated to continue his musical journey as he begins releasing groundbreaking music.

DESCRIPTION:Farayi Malek is a jazz and contemporary vocalist\, composer\, and educator. She received her bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Improvisation from New England Conservatory of Music in 2017 where she studied with vocalist and composer\, Dominique Eade. Upon completion\, she continued on to receive a master’s degree in Contemporary Performance at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute in 2018\, under the tutelage of world-renowned pianist and composer\, Danilo Perez. Since 2018\, Farayi has been a member of Danilo Perez’s Global Messengers. \n\n\n\nIn addition to her performance ventures\, Farayi is a passionate music educator. In January of 2020\, she founded Allegro Virtual Preparatory Instruction\, LLC\, an online learning platform that strives to provide students with access to the highest possible level of preparation for the study of music in higher education in order to maximize the chance of admittance\, scholarship funding\, and to build foundational skills for success and heightened creativity. Beyond helping students develop the necessary technical\, performance\, and professional skills\, Allegro Virtual Prep strives to inspire each student to be socially conscious\, and to use their music to make a positive impact in their own communities. In September 2021\, Farayi joined the faculty at Berklee College of Music as Assistant Professor in the Ensemble Department\, as well as Pop Ensemble teacher at Berklee’s City Music Boston High School Academy. DESCRIPTION:David Rivera is a Puerto Rican artist with over 15 years of experience spanning composing\, arranging\, teaching\, podcasting\, and performing various music styles including Jazz\, Latin\, Gospel\, Rock\, and Pop. His band\, David Rivera y La Bámbula\, blends his relatable lyrics with folkloric urban sounds from the Caribbean\, creating innovative rhythms that fuse jazz and robust horn sections. This unique sound appeals to a wide range of music audiences\, from pop listeners to jazz aficionados. The group has been selected to perform at the Ecuador Jazz Fest and serves as the house band at the Fairmont San Juan Hotel in Puerto Rico. In March 2023\, they were featured in “Sesiones desde la Loma\,” attracting over 60\,000 views on YouTube. \n\n\n\nRivera has participated in numerous live concerts and studio sessions alongside legends such as Miguel Zenón\, Pedro Capo\, Obie Bermudez\, Luis Enrique\, Jerry Medina\, William Cepeda\, and Gonzalo Grau. He first gained recognition as the creator and host of the podcast “Akulkul\,” where he explores the creative processes of each guest artist.
