DESCRIPTION:All ages welcome \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUnCommon Corner\, Boylston St &\, Tremont St\, Boston\, MA 02116 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Emerson Day of Play\n\n\n\nis a day of connection\, fun\, and in-person play at the UnCommon Corner and Harpoon Beer Garden\, located at the corner of Boylston and Tremont in the Boston Common. The event is inspired by the Come Out and Play Festivals in New York\, San Francisco and Philadelphia.Emerson students and local game designers have built six original\, in-person outdoor games to get Bostonians new and old excited about the new school year. Visitors will run\, jump\, hunt goblins\, laugh through games of chess\, hit a target or two\, experience the epic highs and lows of moving in Boston\, learn the time-honored art of constructing giant sandwiches\, and try not to explode in the process. We welcome all students\, families\, and passers-by to drop in or spend all day with us at the UnCommon Corner between 12 and 5PM. Play\, be loud\, have fun and meet some new friends! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBean Time!\n\n\n\nBean Time! Is a physical sorting game that challenges two teams\, or two individuals\, to complete as many sorted coffee recipes as they can in 60 seconds. Each recipe calls for a specific combination of coffee beans and other ingredients that can be found in a bag shared by players.  \n\n\n\nA recipe is completed when the number of ingredients called for is placed in a team’s coffee cup. Teams can choose to play competitively\, winning by individually having the most recipe cards completed\, or cooperatively by collectively having more recipe cards than previous rounds. Because Bean Time! takes only 60 seconds\, the game offers quick\, replayable fun. \n\n\n\nGame Designers:\n\n\n\nMeg Thurmeier\, Carol Cheng\, Takara Bayley-Gale \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCafe Quest\n\n\n\nCafe Quest is a paper-based scavenger hunt that challenges young players to explore the environment for clues\, solve simple puzzles\, and gather information in order to solve the case of stolen coffee beans. Players take on the role of a detective as they travel throughout the Uncommon Corner and interact with various “witnesses” including staff members and original hand-drawn characters. \n\n\n\nTo begins players are provided a mission briefing\, pencils and an investigation log. From there\, they move through five locations to complete puzzles and solve the case. Gameplay takes about 15-20 minutes. \n\n\n\nGame Designers:\n\n\n\nAndrew Chen\, Xuan Jiang\, Maggie Stewart \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCozy Grandpa Hipster Sweaters\n\n\n\nCozy Grandpa Hipster Sweaters is a fast-paced memory matching game where two players race to design a colorful sweater using recycled materials. Players take turns looking through a grid of 36 coffee coaster cards and attempt to find two matching coasters. If a player finds a match\, they run to a fabric recycling bin and find the fabric strip that matches their pattern. This strip is then added to their sweater. The first player to complete their sweater wins. \n\n\n\nCozy Grandpa Hipster Sweaters helps younger players build skills in memory retention\, and offers lessons in sustainability and upcycling. The game also provides players a photo opportunity with their finished sweaters. \n\n\n\nGame Designers:\n\n\n\nMaggie Stewart\, Xiaoyang Wu\, Xinyu Morris \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDunk the Donuts\n\n\n\nDunk the Donuts is a competitive two player game where the goal is to knock donuts and other food items from their display stands. The game is set over a large coffee cup which food falls into when knocked down. Each food item has a point value and the player that obtains the most points wins. Bonus points can also be earned by landing a donut hole (the object players throw) into the golden cup. The competitive spirit of Dunk the Donuts and its focus on physical accuracy helps teach players physical coordination and respectful competition. \n\n\n\nGame Designers:\n\n\n\nArmando Barbosa\, Takara Bayley-Gale\, and Qihao “Anthony” Hong \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho’s on Shift?\n\n\n\nWho’s on Shift? is a 4-6 player social deduction game. Each player takes on the role of a staff member at a newly opened restaurant. Players will be assigned as manager\, loyal employee\, or troublemaker. The manager and regular employees want to keep the restaurant running smoothly for 4 days. The troublemaker wants to cause problems so the restaurant closes. \n\n\n\nEach day players decide which player “goes on shift” and the player on shift is able to play cards in secret that affect gameplay. Her musical career has been characterized by notable achievements and innovative moments. Zayra stands out as the first female percussionist to receive a full scholarship from the prestigious Berklee College of Music\, where she completed her bachelor’s degree. \n\n\n\nThroughout her career\, Zayra Pola has had the privilege of collaborating with Grammy-winning artists such as Bill Whelan\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, and Javier Limon. Her presence on stage has enriched performances alongside prominent figures in the music industry\, including Gilberto Santarosa\, Luis Enrique\, Larry Harlow\, Cheo Feliciano\, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico\, Cuco Peña\, Pedro Capo\, Vico C\, Annie Lennox\, Willie Nelson\, and many others. \n\n\n\nIn recognition of her exceptional talent and contributions to the music world\, Zayra received the “Best Timbales Player of the Year” award at the New England Salsa Music Awards in 2015. Visitors will run\, jump\, hunt goblins\, laugh through games of chess\, hit a target or two\, experience the epic highs and lows of moving in Boston\, learn the time-honored art of constructing giant sandwiches\, and try not to explode in the process. He obsessed over the concept of “food architecture” and spent his life perfecting what he called “The Grand Ritual of Sandwich Elevation.” He believed that the universe is composed of four primordial ingredients: bread\, protein\, toppings\, and condiments. DESCRIPTION:FableVision Presents: Day of Play!\n\n\n\n\nUnCommon Corner\, Boylston St &\, Tremont St\, Boston\, MA 02116\n\n\n\nFeaturing 80s pop\, rock\, and hip hop\, internationally renowned DJ and hip hop artist Toki Wright will journey us through a decade’s worth of iconic songs and we’ll ask\, “Did video really kill the radio star?” \n\n\n\nToki Wright is a two-time Emmy Award-winning MC\, poet\, producer\, and cultural diplomat.  He has received two CLIO Award for advertising with General Mills for the number one worldwide Twitter trending project “Watch the Stove” which was also nominated for a Cannes Lion Award.  Wright is currently the chair of the Professional Music Department at Berklee College of Music in Boston.  Before relocating he was the Department Head of the United States’ first fully accredited Hip-Hop Studies program at McNally Smith College of Music. The program was awarded the “Best Transformative Higher Learning Model” from the Hip-Hop Education Center at NYU. Toki also facilitated seven Twin Cities Celebration of Hip-Hop Festivals and helped establish “Hip-Hop at H.E.A.L.S\,” a program for former child soldiers in Gulu\, Northern Uganda. \n\n\n\nToki’s worked with the US State Department\, delivered a TED Talk\, and ran the youth-led nonprofit YO! The Movement\, helping to build community through the arts. Toki is a freelance writer\, radio host and has been a judge for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest\, and a community organizer. He’s released albums and film through his media company Soul Tools Entertainment that have charted top 50 on MTV\, iTunes\, and more. Wright has performed at events like Coachella\, Rock The Bells and more while sharing stages with the likes of Lizzo\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Atmosphere\, the late Sean Price\, and J-Live. The Washington Post described Thea as a “standout writer”. They are rarely seen or heard from despite epic shows at great venues across the East Coast.  But when they do appear\, it’s a guaranteed supernova of ancient instruments bending around synth grooves and powerful dance breaks. Inimitable\, mysterious\, majestic- the Shadow Notes is the unmistakable alchemy of Ali and Singh.Hailing from a reggae household in the deserts of Arizona\, Levi Ali always had an interest in the percussive arts. He started as a metal drummer before developing an interest in music from around the world. A self taught musician\, he has studied darbuka\, Indian tabla\, Trinidadian tassa\, dhol\, Persian daff\, kanjira\, chimta\, djembe\, davul and regularly performs around Boston. He also performs every Wednesday in Worcester as part of the Electric Haze House Band. One of the few sarangi players in the US\, Michael Dwan Singh is a seasoned musician and stage actor. Born in Boston\, he grew up with piano\, synth and tabla. It was only after college that he discovered the sarangi\, and since then- has been playing under the lineage of Ustad Sultan Khan. Singh has performed on stages across the US\, Middle East\, and India- and his sarangi can be heard on countless records- the most recent being the Ms. Marvel soundtrack. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n4-5 PM | DJ Najwa\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n5-6 PM | Ravi Shavi\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRAVI SHAVI is the sound of garage pop – a concoction of classic punk\, modern indie\, and new wave\, with a shot of rock n’ roll.
